when the world shut down in march of 2020, rainn wilson went LIVE on soulpancake’s instagram. 77 episodes later, this little show in the corner of the internet evolved into a source of connection and joy during a time of isolation and despair. “hey there, human” invited celebrities, artists, activists, and random humans from all around the world to connect about dreams, fears and coping strategies during a crazy time of quarantine. together, we explored what it meant to be human and to “stay human” in 2020.

we wanted to create one last bit of hey there, human magic with a special, “bye there, human” finale episode. the goal was to celebrate our fans and leave them feeling satisfied. we onboarded a good friend, steve carell, onto instagram for the first time! along with steve, we had the quarantine comedy queen, elsa majimbo, musical guest, michael franti, and other random human beings from all around the world. we created a “humans today” video that followed up on some of our favorite guests, a heat map of where our guests live to display the show’s reach, and a lyric video of the unofficial “hey there, human” theme song created by a superfan, dubby mac.
